How Chase Freedom Auto Rental Coverage works

Chase Freedom Auto Rental Coverage provides secondary coverage, meaning it only activates after any personal automobile insurance you may have pays up to the limits of its coverage.

Primary insurance usually covers the cost of damage or theft to a rental vehicle, including physical damage, towing charges, loss-of-use fees and other related expenses. Once the primary insurer pays up to the coverage limit, the secondary coverage kicks in to pay the remaining eligible expenses.

If you do not have personal automobile insurance or any other insurance, or you are renting outside of your country of residence, this benefit may act as primary coverage. The coverage may reimburse you for eligible theft, damage or loss-of-use charges imposed by the rental company. Additionally, this benefit may reimburse you for towing charges that occur while you are responsible for the vehicle.

    Auto Rental Coverage eligibility

To be eligible for Chase Freedom Auto Rental Coverage, you need to do the following before driving off the lot with your new rental:

    • Use your Chase Freedom credit card for the entire car rental transaction. Note that you should be the cardmember.
    • Decline the car rental company’s collision damage waiver or loss damage waiver.

    Coverage value

The maximum coverage allowed is $60,000. Chase Freedom Auto Rental Coverage covers damage, theft, valid loss-of-use charges incurred by the rental agency, administrative fees and towing costs.

    Exclusions

Chase Freedom Auto Rental Coverage is limited to a rental period of 31 consecutive days or less. Below is a partial list of what’s not covered under the policy:
