    Stay Here For

Eating and drinking your way through Peru’s restaurant scene—you left your hiking boots at home.

Have you ever, on a particularly cold morning, found yourself muttering ultimatums about packing up to spend winter in South America?

Perhaps you imagine decamping to a bright, comfortable apartment with all the comforts you wish you had at home: a fitness center overlooking a rooftop pool (with ocean views, of course), nightly turndown service and an attentive fleet of staff on hand to welcome you back.

That’s what you can expect from a stay at Miraflores Park, A Belmond Hotel, Lima in Peru’s capital city. It may not knock you sideways with grandeur, but it will make your fantasies of moving abroad to some beachy locale feel well within reach—and fabulous. (Photo courtesy of Belmond.)

With fewer than 100 rooms, Miraflores Park is exclusive and intimate. But there’s plenty of design drama—the Peruvian-centric restaurant, Tragaluz, has a mural by local artist Mateo Liébana that is repainted throughout the year—and a number of places to unwind between sightseeing excursions.

Guests, who range from suited business travelers to families with young children on holiday, can sip lemon-verbena tea in the wood-paneled library lounge filled with coffee-table books, or elbow up for an afternoon pisco tasting at Belo Bar, where a small staircase that spirals up to the second floor echoes a much larger one in the lobby.

Just like your wildest dreams, a bar cart in the lobby is always stocked with treats, and breakfasts at the rooftop restaurant, The Observatory, are unhurried and indulgent. Views of surfers plying the Pacific will make you forget all about your phone’s chirps and pings.

Your itinerary for the day? You’ll decide after one more cup of coffee. At Miraflores Park, you’ll be inspired to slow down and smell those proverbial flowers.

    The Essentials

    The Room

The Limeña Suite is a stunning home base for a trip to Lima. (Photo courtesy of Belmond.)

Every room at Miraflores Park is a suite, meaning separate sitting and working areas—and ample space to sprawl. We prefer the brighter, more contemporary Deluxe Junior Suites, which have bathrooms with saunas. For a knockout stay, consider a Signature Suite. These have amenities like terraces with private plunge pools. You’re living out the dream of moving abroad, after all.

    The Bars and Restaurants

Elbow up for an afternoon pisco tasting at Belo Bar.

Even in a buzzy food city, the hotel’s restaurants stand out. You’ll want to wake early for breakfast in The Observatory, a solarium-style space with views of the Pacific and an extensive breakfast buffet, including a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, plus à la carte dishes like poached eggs and avocado on charcoal-activated toast. For lunch and dinner, drop by the cozy Belo Bar or Tragaluz, a restaurant with outdoor terrace seating and colorful, floor-to-ceiling artwork. (Order the bass sudado paired with a Yellow Submarine: an electric-looking cocktail made with sherry, gin, turmeric syrup and green Chartreuse.)

    The Standout Feature

The rooftop pool, which looks like it blends right into the Pacific, is where you’ll want to spend most of your time.

    The Location

In the Miraflores district, explore the Huaca Pucllana pre-Inca ruins and the six-mile Malecón path, which overlooks the beach and includes an art-filled park with glittering mosaics. Head to Lima’s Waikiki or Makaha beaches for surfing, sunning and paragliding. Less than a 10-minute drive away is the hip Barranco neighborhood, home to many stars of the city’s nightlife scene, including bars like Lady Bee and Carnaval, where they make more than a dozen types of ice for their cocktails.

    The Time to Go

Hang out by the rooftop pool at any time of day.

Summer in South America coincides with northern winters, meaning December to April is an ideal time to dip below the equator. If days on the beach and late nights experiencing the city’s legendary tabernas are on the agenda, this is the best time to go. Visiting in the offseason? Don’t worry: The pool is heated.

    The Vibe

Head to the roof when you want to sun by the pool. Since it’s heated, you can hang here all year round. (Photo courtesy of Belmond.)

Essential poolside order: A scoop of lucuma ice cream on a hot afternoon.

Who’s hanging around: Glammed up guests (and maybe a few locals) grabbing a drink before a night out.

What’s happening at sunset: You’re borrowing one of the hotel’s bikes or e-scooters to zip down to the Malecón.

The souvenir you’re taking home: Belmond’s signature sticker and bookmark.
