In New York City, location is everything—and this is especially true when business brings you into town.

Fortunately, you don’t need to dread the next work trip that requires you to stay in or near Midtown. The city’s bustling epicenter might be known for drawing in droves of tourists, but there are plenty of hotels here where you can find hot new restaurants packed with locals, cool art galleries, and, yes, even peace and quiet. Take, for example, The Standard, High Line, a lively hotel with a stacked events calendar in the Meatpacking District. Or check out the Archer Hotel New York, which is right outside the chaos of Times Square and has complimentary business amenities to support all your work travel needs. Whether you want to add color to long days spent convening in conference rooms or find a quiet place to wrap up your next presentation, rewrite the idea that work trips have to be all work and no play at these six hotels. Located on the edge of the Hudson Yards neighborhood, Pendry brings California cool to this Manhattan outpost. Rooms and suites here have terra-cotta-colored seating, floor-to-ceiling windows and amenities like custom bath products from local fragrance brand MiN New York. The hotel’s one- and two-bedroom suites have designated living areas, dining rooms, guest washrooms and walk-in closets, so you can easily keep your work and living spaces separate, especially if you’re bringing the family along. Zou Zou’s, an eastern Mediterranean restaurant in a sleek, green-tiled dining room, is perfect for hosting impressive client dinners. You can also work with the hotel’s concierge to arrange extras like airport transfers, Peloton Studios fitness classes, guided art tours and VIP Broadway experiences. Equinox Hotel New York

If the mantra “no days off” extends to your work trips, you’ll find everything you’ll need for consistent weekday workouts at the first hotel from the fitness-centric Equinox brand. Yes, your stay here includes access to Equinox Hudson Yards, the flagship fitness center that serves as one of the most in-demand gyms in the city, but you’ll also find a 27,000-square-foot spa that offers everything from cryotherapy to infrared sauna sessions. Rooms are tech-forward, too, with mobile key entry and a tablet that manages all controls (blinds, lighting, temperature and privacy). Between the total soundproofing, blackout blinds and the Sleep Well Menu that promotes sleep-inducing food and beverages, you’ll catch all the z’s you need before your morning meetings. And, since everyone needs balance, the room service menu includes both bone broth and cheeseburgers.

    The Standard, High Line
    Meatpacking District

At this youthful hotel near the High Line, each of the 338 rooms has floor-to-ceiling windows, a rainfall shower, mood lighting and Bluetooth speakers. Standout rooms include the entry-level Double Standard (250 square feet) and the spacious Empire Corner King (300 square feet), complete with two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows and a seating alcove that can accommodate up to five people. Basic rooms might be cozy, but don’t worry; you’ll spend most of your stay outside of your room, having a seafood-centric dinner at The Standard Grill, blowing off some steam at bingo night or taking advantage of the hotel’s complimentary tickets to the Whitney museum. Even the hotel’s 24-hour gym is a moment, with its Hudson River and skyline views.

    Arlo Midtown
    Garment District

In the center of the city’s Garment District, Arlo Midtown rooms have a calming blue-and-gray palette that extends to the subway-tiled bathrooms, so you can find a moment of calm despite staying in the city’s most chaotic neighborhood. Thoughtful, helpful amenities include bedside charging stations and under-bed storage drawers. Several room types also come with private outdoor terraces with city views. The hotel keeps business travelers front of mind with its Arlo Means Business program, which provides special benefits for business travelers, including late checkout and a credit to spend at the all-day bodega. For food, head to the ART Midtown rooftop for skyline views or Altair, which serves farm-to-table fare and cocktails inspired by the elements, like the Red Hot Cloud, a mix of tequila, pomegranate molasses and vanilla.

    Moxy Times Square
    Midtown

Nothing is quite what it seems at this popular hotel near Times Square. Check-in starts at the hotel’s bar (which doubles as the front desk) with a cocktail—or mocktail, if you’re on the clock. Afterward, you’ll head upstairs to your room, which has under-bed storage, foldaway furniture and a display pegboard to help you maximize every inch of space. In addition to a 24-hour gym, you can take advantage of a slate of free fitness classes, including rooftop workout sessions. The hotel also has four dining venues, all managed by Tao Group Hospitality. Magic Hour, New York City’s largest all-season indoor-outdoor hotel rooftop bar, offers a grown-up take on the carnival theme with a carousel-style bar top and state fair–inspired menu. You’ll also find a free grab-and-go breakfast bar, specialty coffee and pastries at Café d’Avignon, and Blind Barber, a salon where you can get haircuts, shaves and blowouts during the day and, since it doubles as a speakeasy, drinks after-hours.

    Archer Hotel New York
    Midtown

Just under 20 minutes from Javits on the 7 train, Archer offers a stay right outside the chaos of Times Square, only two blocks from Bryant Park. After long days spent in meetings, you’ll return to find locally curated treats like chocolate-covered pretzels with your turndown service. The hotel also offers complimentary services like faxing, copying and printing, as well as overnight shoeshines and use of the Murray Hill New York Sports Club (a 15-minute walk from the hotel). Its Spyglass Rooftop Bar serves brunch through dinner on the weekends, and there’s happy hour from Monday to Thursday. With the hotel’s low-key location, you might forget you’re staying in one of the city’s most central neighborhoods, but that’s nothing a quick jaunt over to the park can’t fix.
