Starting at the historic port of San Blas, Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit unfurls south along the Pacific coast for almost 200 scenic miles, ending just north of the airport in Puerto Vallarta (PVR). Bordered by the Sierra Madre Occidental to the east and dreamy sweeps of sand to the west, the region is a captivating combination of seaside villages and lush jungle—plus some of Mexico’s finest resorts.

Take, for example, the One&Only Mandarina, where clifftop villas and tree houses feature private plunge pools overlooking the emerald mountainside. Or The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, a stunning beachfront property where each room or suite is assigned a personal butler. Whether you want to whisk your significant other off to a secluded suite, get away with the kids to a family-friendly playground or live it up at an all-you-can-everything oasis, you can bet there’s a hotel for you. These are six of our favorite stays across Riviera Nayarit. (Photo courtesy of One&Only Mandarina.)

If you’re searching for paradise minus the people, One&Only Mandarina is your spot. Set deep within the rainforest on the 636-acre Mandarina estate, the resort offers the ultimate luxury: seclusion. There are 105 rooms, ranging from plush villas so integrated into the landscape you have to squint to see them, to sleek tree houses perched on the mountainside, obscured by the verdant canopy. All this means that, unless you make an effort to see your fellow guests (at Jetty Beach Club or The Treetop bar, perhaps), it can feel as if you have the whole place to yourself.

“Your butler will take care of it” is likely the answer to most questions at this palm-studded beachfront property, where personal service for every guest is standard across all room categories. For its so-called “luminaries” (St. Regis speak for guests), no request is too small or challenging. Forgot your novel in the suite? A single message to your butler will have it spirited to your chaise faster than you can say “beach read.” Securing a twilight tee time on one of two Jack Nicklaus–designed golf courses? Easy. Fitting your clothes and all those souvenirs into your carry-on at the end of your stay? Perhaps not quite as simple, but accomplished, nevertheless.

People floating down a lazy river on innertubes

Taking the entire family on vacation can sound like a great idea—until you try finding the right place to go. Is there golf for the grandparents, a cool club for the teens and a lazy river for the kids? Will there be enough restaurants for everyone and adults-only areas so you and your partner can enjoy some alone time? At the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, the answer to all these questions is a resounding “yes.” This is Punta Mita’s most established and arguably most comprehensive resort, with all the above amenities, plus three pools, two beaches and a full-service spa.

W Punta de Mita (Punta de Mita)

From the moment you arrive in the W Punta de Mita’s lobby—which features a stunning mosaic of more than 750,000 multicolor tiles, arranged in the style of the Indigenous Huichol people—there’s no doubt you’re in Mexico. This distinct sense of place continues throughout your stay, through details like the punched-tin headboards and colorful textiles in the rooms, the tequila-spiked specialties at the thatched-roof beach shack, Chevychería, and the striking chandelier in the Living Room Bar, which references Mexico’s Día de Muertos traditions. Every day of your vacation at this beachfront playground can feel like a fiesta.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta)

Not every all-inclusive resort is created equal. In some cases, you’ll find yourself paying extra for seemingly everything. But that’s not the case at Grand Velas. After you’ve checked in to one of this classic resort’s 267 rooms (all suites, with large living areas and balconies) and cracked open your complimentary bottle of mezcal, you might be tempted to do nothing at all. But with four fine-dining restaurants, pickleball courts and a huge spa (try the hour-long water ceremony), you also might want to do it all.

    Imanta Resorts (Higuera Blanca)

Two miles into the jungle, but just a 15-minute drive from Sayulita, this sanctuary of a resort comprises a dozen villas and suites, backed by 250 acres of lush rainforest and a long, breezy beach. Each sleek stone residence is surrounded by the forest canopy, which has been cleverly landscaped to appear as wild as nature intended. If not for the butler service, spa and three restaurants, you could be forgiven for imagining yourself as a castaway in a jungle paradise.
