Who doesn’t love Chicago? The Midwest’s largest city offers a central location, flights from around the country (and world), a red-hot restaurant scene and a never-ending list of attractions and events to explore. Thanks to the city’s constant influx of both business and leisure travelers, there’s also plenty to look forward to in terms of hotels—with rates far below those you’ll find in cities up and down the East and West coasts. Here, we’ve gathered Chicago’s eight best luxury hotels, which will undoubtedly make your next visit one to remember. (Photo courtesy of The St. Regis Chicago.)

Four Seasons Hotel Chicago
Gold Coast
Member of The Edit by Chase Travel
Book a stay here and you’ll be treated to the ultimate in Gold Coast decadence. Rooms feature sweeping views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline through panoramic windows, while the restaurant serves such indulgent dishes as osetra caviar and Wagyu steak. (If you’d rather stay in, the hotel has on-call martini and ice cream carts for cocktails or sundaes in your room.) There’s even an on-site lounge with resident musicians, from South American guitarists to local jazz stars and, come summer, the option to book a day on the lake on the 55-foot house yacht.

The Langham, Chicago
River North
Member of The Edit by Chase Travel
In a city with no shortage of skyscraper hotels, The Langham stands in a category all its own—even the entry-level rooms have impressive skyline views. There’s also the Chuan Spa, offering treatments inspired by traditional Chinese medicine; the Cinema Suite, perfect for a family movie night; and the Pavilion lounge, with its signature afternoon tea service. For a special treat, book a room with The Langham Club access: The private lounge serves breakfast, hors d’oeuvres and evening cocktails alongside sweeping city views.

The Peninsula Chicago
Gold Coast
Member of The Edit by Chase Travel
Rooms at The Peninsula have fantastically comfortable beds, luxe touches like Bernardaud china for your morning coffee and plenty of space (entry-level rooms at this Magnificent Mile hotel start at a spacious 531 square feet). The Z Bar rooftop lounge is a popular hangout for locals and visitors alike, and the Shanghai Terrace restaurant serves contemporary Chinese cuisine and some of the best dim sum you’ll find in town.

Pendry Chicago
The Loop
Member of The Edit by Chase Travel
This relative newcomer opened in 2021 in the Carbide & Carbon Building, a stunning Art Deco landmark in the downtown Loop neighborhood. Head up to the rooftop bar for absinthe cocktails at the French Riviera–themed Château Carbide, or book a table at French fine-dining concept Venteux (French for “windy,” of course). While there isn’t a spa on-site, Pendry partners with nearby AIRE Ancient Baths to extend priority reservations and complimentary experience enhancements to hotel guests.

Thompson Chicago
Gold Coast
Located in the trendy Gold Coast neighborhood, Thompson is steps from top cafés, shops and restaurants, and it’s a short walk from Oak Street Beach. The rooms are modern, the beds are strewn with plenty of pillows for a homey feel and an eye-catching collection of contemporary art lines the hallways. Room service comes courtesy of the ground-floor restaurant, Tavern on Rush, which also happens to be one of the neighborhood’s most popular spots.

Nobu Hotel Chicago
West Loop
Balance is the guiding principle at Nobu Hotel Chicago. The rooftop bar may be the place for celebrations over Japanese whisky cocktails, but the guest rooms provide the utmost in serenity and privacy. Should you tire of the world-famous miso cod at the hotel’s namesake restaurant, all you’ll need to do is head out the front door: Nobu sits in the heart of the bustling Fulton Market District, with several of Chicago’s buzziest restaurants right down the street.

The St. Regis Chicago
Lakeshore East
It should come as no surprise that The St. Regis is a major player in Chicago’s robust luxury hotel scene. It’s got a flashy location in the tallest building in the world by a female architect, a lavish spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center with unmatched views of Navy Pier, two trendy restaurants and more. But the real perk here is that suites come with dedicated butler service to make your Chicago visit as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel
River North
If you love Art Deco, The Gwen is the hotel for you. It’s located in the landmarked McGraw-Hill Building, and the plush, colorful interiors exude Jazz Age glamour. If you’re here on a weekend, check out the popular brunch or Tipsy Tea Party, when all the vivacity and verve of 1920s Chicago feels alive and well. Rooftop bar Upstairs at The Gwen is also a favorite spot for locals. Rooms blend historic charm and contemporary design, and a number of suites even come with private terraces.
