North Carolina’s largest city, Charlotte, is best known as a financial hub. But there’s so much more than business here: It has sports (“keep pounding!”), including the Charlotte Motor Speedway; culture (check out the Mint, North Carolina’s first art museum); access to nature (more than half the city is devoted to parks and green areas); and a thriving culinary scene starring plenty of barbecue and craft beer.
With so much to offer, Charlotte attracts a wide range of visitors, from business travelers to families on vacation. Thankfully, the hotel scene has a little something for everyone, too. If you’re looking for luxury, try The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte, an 18-story oasis with a rooftop garden and penthouse spa. Or be part of the scene at Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, where the adults-only tapas restaurant draws guests and locals alike. At these six hotels, you’ll enjoy the best of the Queen City, no matter what brings you to town. (Photo courtesy of The Ivey’s Hotel.)

Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte
Charlotte Center City
Transport yourself from central Charlotte to South America with a stay at Grand Bohemian. The hotel’s Argentinean influence is present everywhere from the lobby to the rooms, which are decorated with patterned tapestries, wooden furniture and pops of emerald and fuchsia. On the 16th floor, the adults-only Búho Bar serves tapas and cocktails alongside panoramic views of the Charlotte skyline. After a long day on the town, head to the Poseidon Spa, which features a private outdoor terrace for relaxing after your treatment.

The Ivey’s Hotel
Charlotte Center City
Opened in 1924 as a department store, The Ivey’s now serves Uptown Charlotte as a trendy boutique hotel. Each of the 47 rooms is slightly different: Some are done up with Art Deco details, though all have 400-year-old reclaimed French oak floors. There’s also Sophia’s Lounge, which serves American and European fare, and The Library, a moody space with a cigar-lounge feel, open exclusively to guests. When you’re ready to explore Charlotte, the hotel offers customized itineraries in partnership with local institutions like Blumenthal Arts performing arts center and the Mint Museum.

The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte
Charlotte Center City
The 18-story Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte houses multiple dining venues, a gym, a penthouse spa and dedicated meeting rooms, making it an all-around popular pick. Rooms start at a generous 506 square feet and feature marble bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows and minibars stocked with local products. On the rooftop, there’s a full-on garden, complete with more than 18,000 ornamental plants, as well as a supply of fruit, vegetables and herbs for the hotel’s restaurants and bars, which range from the Southern-inspired Fifth Fork to the chocolate-themed Bar Cocoa.

The Dunhill Hotel
Charlotte Center City
Built in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor apartment hotel, The Dunhill is an ideal base for the history lover who also appreciates modern conveniences. The on-site Dunhill Bar references the building’s backstory with a menu of Prohibition-era cocktails like Bee’s Knees, Black Manhattans and old-fashioneds, while The Asbury restaurant specializes in Southern fare (think: macaroni and cheese, shrimp and grits, and buttermilk biscuits), with many of its ingredients sourced from small local farms in the area.
