No matter where you want to go, chances are good that you can earn or redeem points on your next vacation. Here’s why the Marriot loyalty program is so popular.

    Marriot Bonvoy benefits

When you join Marriot Bonvoy, you can book rooms at an exclusive member rate and enjoy complimentary in-room Wi-Fi. At participating hotels, you can check in or chat with your hotel before arrival through the Marriott Bonvoy app. The app allows you to check in and activate your Mobile Key, which enables you to use your phone as a room key. The Marriott Bonvoy program makes it relatively easy to redeem your points. You can redeem them on free nights, flights, experiences and more. Whenever you’re short on points, you can still book a stay with a combination of cash and points. If you love a deal, access the PointSavers program, which allows you to find stays while saving on points redemption. Members in the Elite tiers can get benefits such as late checkouts, reservation guarantees, enhanced room upgrades, lounge access, welcome gifts and more. Please note that availability varies by Elite tier and hotel brand.

    Marriott Bonvoy status levels

Beyond the basic membership, you can attain elite status based on hotel stays. Below are the status levels and nights per calendar year needed to attain them:

    • Gold Elite: 25 nights
    • Platinum Elite: 50 nights

How to earn Marriott Bonvoy points

There are many ways to earn points with the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, from hotel stays to dining at your favorite restaurants.

    Book stays with Marriott Bonvoy

How you earn points is relatively straightforward as far as hotel loyalty programs go. You are awarded points for every qualifying $1 USD you spent on hotel stays, meetings or experiences at hotel brands participating in Marriott Bonvoy.

    Refer a friend

If you’re enjoying the perks of Marriott Bonvoy, why not tell your friends? You can get rewards when you refer up to five new members every calendar year. You’ll earn 2,000 bonus points for each stay your referred friends make on up to five stays. If you refer five friends and they each book five stays, you can earn 50,000 bonus points. Plus, your friends can get 2,000 bonus points for each of their stays for up to five stays.

    Eat Around Town dining program

Foodies rejoice—you can eat to earn points. Simply join Eat Around Town for free. To enroll, sign in with your Eat Around Town by Marriott Bonvoy number and password. Then, link a credit or debit card to your account. Dine and pay with one of your linked credit or debit cards at one of 20,000 eligible restaurants, and you’ll automatically earn points. With a base Marriott Bonvoy membership, you’ll get four points per qualifying dollar spent on dine-in and takeout orders, including tax and tip. If you’ve got Marriott Bonvoy Elite status, you’ll earn six points per qualifying dollar spent at participating restaurants.

    Book a car rental

You can earn points when you rent a car through Hertz, Thrifty or Dollar. You get the most rewards when you rent through Hertz, earning 500 points per rental. Marriott Bonvoy members can enjoy Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® Elite status and avoid the counter at rental pick-up and return.

    Transfer credit card points

Several credit card providers allow you to convert your credit card points to Marriott Bonvoy points. Chase Ultimate Rewards® points can be converted to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio. Points must be transferred in increments of 1,000 points. Check the program terms and conditions to learn how to transfer points.

    Purchase points

You can purchase up to 100,000 points per year in increments of 1,000 points.

What you can redeem your Bonvoy points on

    Book a stay

You can redeem your points on stays or room upgrades. Use points, cash and points or a Free Night Award certificate to book a room. The point redemption rate for a room can fluctuate based on demand, so look out for PointSavers Awards to get the most economical redemption opportunities. It’s also a good value to redeem your points for five consecutive nights. For eligible 5-day stays, you’ll get the night with lowest point value free under Marriott Bonvoy’s “Stay for Five, Pay for Four” offer. The offer only applies to a single reservation booked entirely with points.

    Book flights and car rentals

Redeem your Bonvoy points directly to book flights or rent cars. The hotel loyalty program has partnerships with more than 40 airlines and car rental companies that you can redeem points for to book your next trip.

    Share your points

If you’re feeling generous or need to spend points before they expire, you can transfer them to another Bonvoy member. Transfer up to 100,000 points per calendar year. Another way to share is by donating your points to charity. There are over 20 charities you can contribute to and donations start at 2,500 points.

    In summary

If you are looking for a loyalty program with a wide range of properties around the globe and a straightforward points structure, Marriott Bonvoy could be a good choice for you. Boost your points-earning potential with a Marriott Bonvoy credit card from Chase.
