Chase Return Protection: How it works

Time to read min

    Quick insights

    • Chase Return Protection allows you to return an item for reimbursement up to 90 days from the date of purchase when the store won't accept it.
    • The Chase Sapphire Reserve® credit card comes with Return Protection and applies when you use your card to purchase an eligible item.
    • This benefit provides reimbursement up to $500 per item and a maximum of $1,000 per account in a 12-month period.

If you get buyer's remorse after a store's return window has closed, you may still be able to get reimbursed for your purchase. Chase Return Protection could potentially allow you to get a refund when the seller has a limited timeframe for returns or considers all sales final.

Here's what to know about Chase Return Protection.

    How Chase Return Protection works

Return Protection provides reimbursement for the purchase price of eligible items when the retailer refuses to accept a return. This cardmember benefit is part of a suite of complimentary travel and purchase protections that come with a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card.

To be eligible for the benefit, the purchase must be charged in full to a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Return Protection is secondary to the retailer's return policy and only applies when the retailer will not allow a return on the purchase for a refund, exchange or credit.

If you're a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmember, you may find that Return Protection makes you feel more confident when making purchases.

You'll need to notify the Benefit Administrator within 90 days of the date of your purchase to use your Return Protection benefit. The contact information is listed in the Guide to Benefits.

The Benefit Administration may ask you a few questions to determine what forms and other documentation you may need to submit. You could be asked to provide:

    • An original itemized sales receipt
    • Credit card statement showing purchased item

It's possible you'll be asked to submit additional evidence, including proof of the retailer's return policy. You'll need to submit any requested documentation within 60 days from when you provide notice of the loss.

You'll receive instructions for returning the item once the claim paperwork is complete. When you return the item, the condition of the item will be evaluated before your claim can be approved for reimbursement.
