Consumers have a lot of options when making purchases online. One of the newer options they may see is a digital checkout option called Paze. In this article, we’ll cover frequently asked questions about Paze—including what it is and how and where to use it.

    What is Paze?

Paze is an online checkout solution that may provide a secure and more convenient experience for transactions made at online merchants and e-commerce sites (Paze doesn’t share your actual card numbers with online merchants). Unlike some digital payment options, Paze does not require you to create a new account, download an app or even enter your credit card numbers.

Paze was created by a consortium of seven of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. (Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, PNC, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo).  If you don’t have an eligible account at a bank or credit union affiliated with Paze, you can’t use it as a payment option.

Paze recognizes and syncs your account information to the email address and phone number associated with your bank and credit card accounts. When you verify these details in Paze, eligible accounts from participating financial institutions are automatically displayed as payment options for you to select and checkout.

    How Paze works

Your Paze account is synced to the email address and phone number tied to your bank and credit card accounts. Your eligible credit or debit card will be automatically linked to Paze throughout all of the participating bank cards you have.

For example, you can have a Chase credit card and a debit card with a different participating financial institution and they will both be in Paze for your convenience. By selecting Paze at checkout, you can quickly access all of your eligible credit and debit cards and choose one to complete your purchase.

    Benefits of Paze

Two of the main potential benefits of using Paze are convenience and security features:

    Convenience

Paze allows you to access your eligible credit or debit cards all in one place. Additionally, it doesn’t require you to download an app, create a username or enter a password. Once you activate Paze by accepting the terms for use and confirming your identity, you can start using it at checkout.

    Security

Paze doesn’t share your actual card numbers with online merchants. Instead, Paze replaces sensitive card data with a token, which offers a unique set of random letters and numbers used for the transaction. This means that online merchants won’t see your credit card numbers.

And if your card is lost or stolen, there’s no need to update your payment information in Paze when you get your replacement card. Because your credit card automatically links to Paze, there’s no need to manage your card information on online merchant sites. Paze updates the information automatically.

    Paze eligibility

You can use Paze if you’re a current Chase customer with access to Chase Onlineâ„  or the Chase Mobile® app and you’ve used an eligible Chase credit or debit card for a recent online purchase.

Note that only consumer cards are eligible. Some examples of ineligible cards include:

    • Chase First BankingSM debit cards
    • Chase High School CheckingSM debit cards
    • Chase business credit cards
    • Private Bank credit and debit cards
    • Chase Private Client Privileges cards
    • Joint checking account debit cards
    • ATM-only cards
    • Credit card authorized user cards

Cardholders must be at least 18 years of age to use Paze.

    Getting started with Paze

To set up Paze, you’ll need to confirm you have an eligible account with at least one of the participating financial institutions. There are no new apps to download or passwords to create; once you have an eligible account, Paze will automatically be ready to use.

You only need to activate Paze once before you can begin using it. This can be done one of two ways: via your financial institution, or via your first purchase with a participating online merchant. To activate Paze before your first purchase, log into your financial institution’s website or mobile app.

To activate Paze at a participating online merchant on your web or mobile browser (or via a participating app for in-app purchases), you can follow these steps:

    1. Select Paze at checkout.
    2. Verify your identity by entering a security code that’s sent to your phone.
    3. Select an eligible credit or debit card at checkout.

You will also need to accept Paze’s terms and conditions before the first time you use it for a transaction.

Modifying and opting out of Paze

To request that your eligible Chase credit and debit cards are not made available for use via Paze, contact Chase through the Secure Message Center or by calling 1-800-939-9935.

Cardholders can remove eligible credit or debit cards already in Paze at Chase Online or in the Chase Mobile app. You can also opt out of Paze through mywallet.paze.com.

    Merchants who accept Paze

You can use Paze at any participating online merchant. View a list of merchants that offer Paze before you shop online.

It’s important to note that Paze is not a peer-to-peer payment method, cannot be added to your digital wallet and cannot be used for in-store shopping. It’s designed for use with online merchants.

Earning credit card rewards with Paze

You won’t miss out on earning credit card rewards when you use Paze. Using Paze when making transactions online is similar to swiping your card in a store.

The rewards you earn from your transactions will vary based on the card, card issuer and what you’re purchasing. You can accumulate points as usual whether you use Paze or your physical card to make a transaction.

For example, if you have a Chase Freedom Flex® credit card, you may be eligible to earn 1% cash back on most purchases whether the transactions are made via Paze or with your physical credit card.

    In summary

Paze can provide flexibility and convenience when checking out online because it has the ability to sync with your existing accounts. However, if you don’t have an eligible account with a participating bank or credit union, you’ll need to use an alternative payment method when checking out online. To confirm eligibility, log into your bank or credit card accounts.
