If you’ve had it with long lines and screenings at airport security, you may be interested in TSA PreCheck. But which enrollment provider should you choose? TSA collaborates with a few different partners to help enroll travelers in this Trusted Traveler Program, and there are some key differences among them in terms of benefits, cost and enrollment locations.
Let’s unpack what the enrollment process through IDEMIA looks like.
Understanding IDEMIA
TSA has designated several partners to help with enrolling travelers in TSA PreCheck. IDEMIA is among the three enrollment providers that you can choose from when applying for or renewing your membership.
With hundreds of TSA PreCheck enrollment centers, IDEMIA has the most active locations compared to other enrollment providers. The cost to enroll through IDEMIA is as follows:
- Application fee: $78
- Online renewal fee: $70
- In-person renewal fee: $78
The above information is current as of October 2024. Visit the TSA PreCheck website for the most current information about IDEMIA’s pricing and enrollment locations.
How to get TSA PreCheck with IDEMIA
The first step to getting TSA PreCheck (if you are found eligible) is to apply online, which can take as little as five minutes to complete.
During the application process, you’ll be prompted to select an enrollment provider. You may wish to verify that IDEMIA has an enrollment center near you before making your selection.
After you submit the application, the next step is to make an appointment at your preferred IDEMIA enrollment location. During your appointment, the process typically includes fingerprinting and document and photo capture. You’ll also need to pay the $78 enrollment fee.
The final step, if you are found eligible, is to get your TSA PreCheck Number, which is also called a Known Traveler Number (or KTN).
Want to complete a TSA PreCheck renewal with IDEMIA? Start by finding your TSA PreCheck Number and then complete the online application for renewal.
Alternative ways to get TSA PreCheck
IDEMIA isn’t your only option for applying to get TSA PreCheck. TSA also partners with CLEAR and Telos. There’s no single best option for all travelers. The right provider for you may depend on your needs and preferences.
Here’s what these enrollment providers have to offer as of October 2024:
CLEAR
- Enrollment cost: $77.95
- Renewal cost: $68.95 (online) and $77.95 (in-person)
CLEAR doesn’t require you to make an appointment at an enrollment center. When renewing through CLEAR, you may be eligible for discounts on other CLEAR travel products.
Telos
- Enrollment cost: $85
- Renewal cost: $70 (in-person and online)
You may be presented with upcoming travel deals when you use Telos.
How to get reimbursed for the TSA PreCheck application fee
There are credit cards that will reimburse you for TSA PreCheck. If your credit card has this benefit, you’ll typically get reimbursed in the form of a statement credit when you pay your application fee with the eligible card.
For example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® credit card comes with this benefit. You may be able to receive a statement credit for up to $120 every four years as reimbursement for either TSA Precheck or Global Entry with a Sapphire Reserve card. Note that the credit card has an annual fee.
In summary
If you’re applying for TSA PreCheck, you can choose from three enrollment providers: IDEMIA, CLEAR and Telos. IDEMIA has more enrollment locations than the other providers, which may make it a convenient option for some travelers. Regardless of the provider you choose, you can get reimbursed for the application fee through some credit cards, including Chase Sapphire Reserve.
